DeVita Havanese

   Casa DeVita

In 2007 the DeVita family decided to look for a dog friendly home that would be appropriate for the family of five and the canine family. Once I saw the house in mid country with almost two private acres and the 2,000 sq. ft lower level I knew I had found the new "home" of the DeVita Clan. Separate areas were already set up on the ground level for grooming and whelping and a huge Doggy play room that would become my office.

Annual Reunion At Casa Devita

Breeders and Pup owners get together to ask questions and get answers at the DeVita Reunion. Great time to network and find out how the other "Hav" owners are approaching different aspects of puppy raising.

Dogs are free to roam the offices and doggy space during the day when we are with them. All dogs sleep in crates at night and are in crates when we are out. This includes our pets as well as our show dogs and boarding dogs. We strongly believe that a crate is similar to a child and his or her room. The crate provides quiet time and alone time that dogs need. The crate is never used as punishment and I find when the crate doors are left open most of the Havanese will jump right into the crate for their  naps. Crates, used properly are an essential part of the dogs training and peace of mind.

A private and cozy room is available for each mom to enjoy separation and safety for her pups. Although only a few litters are born throughout the year at the DeVita's, this room is set up to make the delivery and first months of the puppies lives comfortable and away from the hub of the dog space. The moms have access to the outside and seem to love their time with their brood while still being close to their buddies.

Our goal is to provide a "home-like" atmosphere although we are small kennel. My husband and kids as well as others help me care for the dogs and we keep an immaculate environment. The puppies experience a loving atmosphere from birth and if a retired show dog is adopted the dog has enjoyed the same lifestyle he or she will retire to. Our moms usually have just a couple of litters as our focus is bettering our breeding program, not creating pets. Havanese are intelligent and adaptable yet we work hard at making all transitions easy for both the families and the dogs by spending alot of quality time with the puppies and also taking them out to socialize. We have cats and a "bigger" dog and kids and lots of music and activities going on. We pride ourselves in keeping our program intimate and making sure all the puppies and pets are well socialized and loved.
